Why do some planet names change between languages?

Many planet names come through Latin and Greek traditions, but pronunciation, spelling and historical usage developed differently in each language. Some names therefore stay very similar, while others differ more noticeably.

Why is Earth more different from the other planet names?

Unlike names such as Mars or Venus, the everyday word for Earth is usually inherited from ordinary words meaning land, soil or ground. That is why English “Earth”, Spanish “Tierra”, French “Terre” and Italian “Terra” differ from one another more than many mythological planet names do.
